Disclaimer: First and foremost, this is only my perception of things at this moment in my life. Keep in mind that I could be completely delusional, and that this writing is only my opinion. I realize this is all stuff that has been given to me, and that I have nothing original to offer.
The way I see it, the fundamental truth lies deep down in every man, women, and child. It has been there since the beginning and will be there until the end, if there is a beginning and an end of things.
That truth is God—the One who has all power. The source of our joy, our peace, our freedom, our purpose, our life. God is something we already have when our physical bodies are brought into this world. I believe there is nothing that can separate us from God (but we can be blocked off from Him). Not even death can kill that connection.
When we say that no one can hurt us but ourselves, when we live in the presence of the fundamental truth of God, there is only love and no fear (self). When tapped into the power of God, all is possible and only we can put a limit on Him. God is a part of us, we are a part of Him, so we are all one. We are a part of, not "a part" from.
What blocks us? THE EGO (FEAR). There are many names and forms of the ego, but I'm not going to get into that because it's not important. Simply put: The only problem we, as God's children, ever have is lack of power. Since we can be blocked from the connection to God, we don't lack the power, just the awareness of it.
No matter what our ego tells us is wrong on the outside—the problem is always within. It's all a matter of our perception of our truth at that moment. Delusion can be defined as not being able to tell the truth from the false. When I'm blocked from my truth, my life becomes unmanageable (because I feel I have to manage it). Unmanageable has to do with my condition on the inside, not the outside. So when are blocked off from the power of God, we naturally seek power, but not knowing what power to seek, we will temporarily use any power to replace it. We are to be happy, joyous, and free. If we are not, then we seek solutions or powers to produce that birthright.
Let's keep this as simple as possible. If lack of power is our only problem, then we need to tap into that one power (God) for a solution.
First we recognize what the problem is (lack of power, Step 1), then we accept our solution (God, Step 2), and then we make a commitment to seek Him (Step 3).
The first action we take is to look at what is blocking us (personal inventory, Step 4). Then we admit that to another and to God (confession, Step 5). Then we simply take this to reflection or meditation and ask humbly in prayer if that power we seek will remove that which blocks us from our truth (Steps 6 and 7).
Now as a result of lack of power, our lives became unmanageable on the inside and we caused harm to others. So now being accountable for our action taken in a state of lack of power (delusional), we mend our ways and free those who we hurt (Steps 8 and 9).
By this time we are very aware of our true nature, once again, just like when we were free as children before we fell asleep to the truth. So our privilege is to stay awake. We do that by consistent inventory (Step 10) and prayer and meditation (Step 11).
In this we are now open to grow, but most importantly for our primary purpose, which is to serve (Step 12).
This process is not about getting anything or adding to anything in our life. It's about removing. Spirituality is a process of erasing or subtracting. The primary purpose is that we live in a condition where we can be of maximum service to God and our fellows. When we are aware of that truth, when are spirit is awake, we lack nothing and all these other false powers are not attractive. We can't get enough of God's power and naturally want to share it with others.
My vision starts with the fellowship of AA, but how about the world that we live in? A fellowship that is joined by one common solution, a place of harmony, not discord. A SAFE PLACE OF HOPE. I'm not saying that God is not doing His job, because He is. God will do for us what we cant do, but will not do what we can. That is called LOVE.
In conclusion, all this is great, or so I think, but what I have learned most is that life is about experience. God doesn't want us to believe in Him or have faith in Him, but to experience Him: To live in Him and Him in us, oneness. Don't get me wrong, faith and belief are great, but we're missing the mark if we think that's all there is. Faith without works is dead.
